Course: Gas Metal Arc Welding

 

Course Description

This course is Gas Metal Arc Welding where students learn "MIG" welding. They also learn the proper settings and adjustments on various brands and models of MIG welders. Students will learn the basics of fitting for MIG welding and setup for various welding positions.

 

Certificate

Completion of this course certifies proficient understanding of MIG welding tools and techniques based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skills Competence is available upon request.

 

Competencies (skills you will learn)

     •   Describe the various methods of metal transfer in GMA welding

     •   Demonstrate the effect of slope and inductance on GMA welding

     •   Demonstrate the four variables used to control the GMA welding

     •   Name the parts of a GMA welding setup

     •   Demonstrate satisfactory welds in all positions using the short-circuiting metal transfer method

     •   Demonstrate satisfactory welds in the 1F, 2F, and 1G positions using the pulsed-arc metal

         transfer method

 

Course Structure

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

 

Course Length

The estimated length of this course is 35 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

 

Admission Requirements

Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. Also, the Welding Introduction and Safety Course must be completed prior to this course.

9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday

 

Tuition and Fees

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks. This course also has individual one-time supply and lab fees of $55. Please see the information sheet for your desired program for estimated total program tuition and fee costs.
