Course: Designing Security for a Windows Network
Course Description
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design a security framework for small, medium, and enterprise networks by using Microsoft Windows technologies. It also provides students with a comprehensive overview of the features and functions with respect to security in a Windows Server. This includes a look at the configuration, management, and networking functionality of Windows in standalone as well as both large and small network environments. By the end of the course, students should have the ability to configure and support secure environments running Windows Server. Prepares students for exams included in the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient network security design and managing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.
This course is not required by any Information Technologies Programs.
Competencies (skills you will learn)
• Analyze business, technical, and security requirements
• Design a Windows security solution to include an audit policy, delegation of authority, an
Encrypting File System strategy, an authentication strategy, a security group strategy, a
Public Key Infrastructure, and network services security
• Design a security solution for access between networks to provide security-enhanced access
to public networks from a private network, and security for remote access users
• Design security for communication channels to include an SMB-signing solution and an
IPSec solution

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
