Course: A+ Practical Applications (2009)

 

Course Description

This course is designed to teach common components and features in operating systems; command prompt use; installing, configuring, upgrading and troubleshooting common operating systems; and basic networking. The course prepares students for operating systems exams such as the A+ operating systems certification.

 

Certificate

Completion of this course certifies proficient operating system installation and managing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

 

This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:

     •   Computer Upgrade and Repair Technician (A+)

     •   IT - Networking

     •   Network Associate (MCP)

     •   Network Administrator (MCSA)

     •   Networking Technician (Net+)

 

Competencies (skills you will learn)

     •   Understand operating systems fundamentals

     •   Install, configure and upgrade common operating systems. * Learn basic concepts of networking

     •   Diagnose and troubleshoot operating systems

 

Course Structure

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

 

Course Length

The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Information Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
