Course: A+ Essentials (2009)
Course Description
This course is designed to explore physical and functional characteristics of computer devices and components and trends in computer architecture. Emphasis will be placed on configuring a microcomputer, troubleshooting, interrupts, device and memory management, virtual memory and paging, file management, and performance analysis. Lab exercises include assembling a computer and troubleshooting problems. This course also prepares student for hardware exams, such as the A+ hardware certification.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient hardware configuring and managing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Information Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.
