Course: Beginning & Tracking the Patient Record
Course Description
This course provides the fundamentals of beginning and tracking a patient record using both paper records and electronic medical record (EMR) software.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient patient record-keeping skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Proficiency is available upon request.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:
• Clinical Medical Assistant
• ECG Technician
• Medical Office Laboratory Technician
• Phlebotomy Technician

• File patient charts numerically
• File patient charts alphabetically
• Create paper patient charts
• Create electronic patient charts
• Schedule patient appointments on the computer
Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 20 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Admission Requirements
There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technologies Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.
