Course: Phlebotomy

 

Course Description

This course provides a fundamental understanding of phlebotomy and enables the student to perform venipuncture using a Vacutainer or butterfly.

 

Certificate

Completion of this course certifies proficient phlebotomy skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

 

This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:

     •   Clinical Medical Assistant

     •   ECG Technician

     •   Medical Office Laboratory Technician

     •   Phlebotomy Technician

 

Competencies (skills you will learn)

     •   Know the anatomy of the arm venous system

     •   Know the anatomy of blood

     •   Perform 25 successful Vacutainer draws

     •   Perform 10 successful butterfly draws

     •   Perform correct tube draw order

     •   Properly complete lab requisition forms

 

Course Structure

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

 

Course Length

The estimated length of this course is 30 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

 

Admission Requirements

There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technologies Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
