Course: Assisting with the Oncology Examination
Course Description
Within the Clinical Medical Assisting Program are 14 courses that each focus on medical assisting within a specific medical area or specialty. Assisting with the Oncology Examination is one of these specialties. Oncology is the scientific and medical study of neoplasm. An Oncologist is a specialist in oncology, the branch of medicine dealing with tumors. You will learn how to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient Medical Assisting skills in the oncology examination based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams.
This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:
• Clinical Medical Assistant
Competencies (skills you will learn)
• Understand the vocabulary and terminology of oncology
• Learn how to identify different types of cancer and their treatment
• Understand the tests order and diagnosis
• Work with patient cases in oncology
• Know how to schedule referrals for diagnostic tests, biopsies and ultrasounds
• Properly perform patient education for oncology problems
Course Structure
This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 15 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Admission Requirements
There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technologies Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services. Assisting with the Oncology Examination is a required course that is recommended to be taken after the Assisting with the Endocrinology Examination course.
