Course: Assisting with the Endocrinology Examination
Course Description
Within the Clinical Medical Assisting Program are 14 courses that each focus on medical assisting within a specific medical area or specialty. Assisting with the Endocrinology Examination is one of these specialties. This course focuses on the endocrine system which has many facets. The endocrine system includes ductless glands or the glands of internal secretion, such as: pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, and pancreas. You will learn all how all these glands function and treatments for diseases of the endocrine system.
Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient Medical Assisting skills in the endocrinology examination based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

• Understand the mechanism of hormone action
• Differentiate among common endocrine disorders
• Outline the treatment plan and management of diabetes mellitus
• Perform blood glucose screening with a glucometer
• Summarize patient education approaches to diabetes

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.
Course Length
The estimated length of this course is 15 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.
Admission Requirements
There are no specific requirements to take this course. However, courses in the Health Care Technologies Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services. Assisting with the Endocrinology Examination is a required course that is recommended to be taken after the Assisting with the ENT Examination course.
